​The Grow Your Own Teacher Pathway program of study, which was designed to address West Virginia's critical need for teachers, provides promising high school students with a career path to pursue a career in education. Students will use foundational knowledge of subject matter to plan and prepare effective instruction and design courses or programs. They will employ knowledge of learning and developmental theory to describe individual learners. Students will use content knowledge and skills of instruction to develop standards-based goals and assessments. They will identify materials and resources needed to support instructional plans. Students will establish a positive climate to promote learning. They will identify motivational, social, and psychological practices that guide personal conduct. Students will demonstrate organizational and relationship-building skills used to manage instructional activities and related procedures. They will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in instructional planning. Students will utilize assessment and evaluation tools and data to advance learner achievement and adjust instructional plans. They will evaluate teaching and training performance indicators to determine and improve effectiveness of instructional practices and professional learning. Students will implement strategies to maintain relationships with others to increase support for the organization. They will participate in Educators Rising, a co-curricular Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that provides a variety of ongoing school and community-based service projects to enhance leadership opportunities. Students who complete both years of the Grow Your Own Teacher Pathway program of study can graduate with a bachelor's degree in only three years.
